Every week (likely every Friday morning) I’ll post “Buy or Sell” – where I give a thumbs up or thumbs down to various St. Louis Cardinals trends/topics/musings that are commonly discussed throughout the week.
With that said, let’s get underway for the week of August 6th.
Lucas Hackmann – Cat Wrangler, Hero and Pride of St. Louis
If you have been living on another planet this week, you missed a puuurrrrfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of a small cat running onto the field during Wednesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
Check out the video below:
Great stuff. Hack’s tenacity and ability to track down a live animal mid-game are second to none.
It’s evident by the video that he took couple of bites/scratches whilst sprinting back, and I’ll be damned if it didn’t look like a scene from Black Hawk Down.
Cool, calm and collected – I love the focus here. And did you see him hop the gate with the cat in one arm?
Somebody give that guy a tryout he looks like a sure-fire athlete.
His story has gone viral, even getting the attention of Jimmy Fallon.

What’s been the greatest part about this story is the life it has shot back into the St. Louis fan base, both at the ballpark and on the Twitter feeds.
Sure the Cat is a second coming of Rally Squirrel, but we all remember how that ended up..
Speaking of those Cardinals and their winning lately…
The Cardinals are Red Hot
Aside from the #RallyCat, St. Louis has been on a tear this past week, now finding themselves only one game back in the National League Central standings.
How have they done it you may ask? An offensive explosion surely has helped.
Granted, Cardinals fans everywhere would’ve liked to see the bats heat up a little sooner this season, but runs have been churning out of Busch Stadium faster than Willy Wonka’s chocolate river.
What’s best to see is veteran players like Dexter Fowler and Yadier Molina really turn their game up after battling adversity this year.
Fowler has been on/off the the disabled list after securing a large contract this past off-season, and many (including myself) started to wonder if the price tag was worth it.
Molina continues to battle scrutiny both on and off the field, including a tiff with manager Mike Matheny that I’m still not sure is completely resolved.
Regardless, the veteran offensive output, solid pitching (EVEN THE BULLPEN), and reliance on the Memphis products have the Birds trending upward.
It’s how the kids say “LIT” right now in St. Louis.
It’s hard not to get caught up in what is going on in St. Louis right now, and even as the Cardinals are winning and spirits are high, it’s important to remain level-headed.
There’s still a lot of baseball to be played this season.
